Training young people to lead, serve, grow, and make a difference in their community.


Program Overview

The Youth Volunteer Leadership & Community Impact Program is a community-based training program designed to prepare youth to become confident, responsible, and community-minded volunteers.

Through practical workshops, mentorship, leadership development, communication skills training, and supervised volunteer opportunities, participants will learn how to serve effectively, support community events, work as part of a team, and build valuable skills for school, employment, and future leadership.

This program helps youth understand the value of community service while developing confidence, responsibility, professionalism, and a heart for helping others.

This program is designed for:

  • Youth ages 14–25
  • Students who need volunteer hours
  • Young people interested in leadership
  • Newcomer youth
  • Racialized youth
  • Young women and young men seeking confidence-building
  • Youth who want to gain work-ready skills
  • Youth interested in community service
  • Youth who want to build their resume
  • Youth who want to become peer leaders or community helpers

No previous volunteer experience is required.


Program Length

Standard Program Length:
8 weeks

Schedule:
One session per week

Session Length:
Approximately 2 hours per session

Additional Volunteer Hours:
Participants may also complete supervised volunteer hours through IECN programs, community events, outreach activities, workshops, or approved partner opportunities.

Alternative Formats Available:
The program may also be offered as a 6-week version, weekend intensive, March Break program, summer program, or customized youth group training.

Weekly Program Topics

Week 1: The Heart of Volunteering
Understanding service, community impact, and the role of a volunteer.

Week 2: Youth Leadership & Confidence
Building confidence, responsibility, and leadership skills.

Week 3: Communication Skills
Learning respectful communication, active listening, and professional greetings.

Week 4: Teamwork & Problem-Solving
Working with others, resolving conflict, and handling challenges.

Week 5: Professionalism, Ethics & Boundaries
Understanding confidentiality, respect, safety, and appropriate volunteer conduct.

Week 6: Community Outreach & Event Support
Learning how to support workshops, registration tables, outreach, and community events.

Week 7: Employment Readiness Through Volunteering
Using volunteer experience to build a resume, prepare for interviews, and gain workplace skills.

Week 8: Reflection, Celebration & Next Steps
Reviewing growth, setting goals, and preparing for continued volunteer service.

All volunteer opportunities will be supervised by approved adult leaders or program staff.

Participants who complete the training requirements may receive a:

Certificate of Completion in Youth Volunteer Leadership & Community Impact

This certificate recognizes training in leadership, communication, teamwork, volunteer professionalism, community service, and employment readiness.


Parent/Guardian Consent

For participants under 18, parent or guardian consent may be required before participating in volunteer activities.
